Memories are the key to the future…

“Today I know that such memories are key not to the past, but to the future. I know that the experience of our lives, when we let God use them, become the mysterious and perfect preparation for the work he will give us to do.” Corrie ten Boom
One of my hero’s Corrie ten Boom says it so well 🙂
Over the last few months, I have been continuing to make preparations to get to Congo. I took a big step this week, as I announced to all my colleagues of my plan to transition to Congo early 2018. This was bitter sweet: This is where my career started, this is a place that has shaped me both as a person and as a clinician. The laughter, the tears, the highs, the lows, all part of the journey. I will miss my colleagues, it’s not many places that you can find an environment like where I work, and that’s a bit scary 🙂 The memories of the last 6 years will truly be imprinted upon my heart.
This week, I will be attending Foursquare Missions International Orientation in Los Angeles. This is the next step, in the process of becoming a Foursquare Missionary. I would appreciate your prayers 🙂
Congo, its people, their faces, the heartache, the hope, the laughter, the tears…it all still whispers in the distance, still causes my heart to break, still draws me, still is etched in my heart, still causes me to stop in my tracks. I can’t say that the present has drowned it out, however I’ve really been trying to be fully present now. That doesn’t mean “putting things on hold,” but it means giving all I have to the moment, to the present,  and taking steps for the future.
To give you a corny cardiac analogy: Though I can’t hear my heart beat I can feel the pulse at my wrist or my neck or I could even place a stethoscope over my heart… it is then I could even hear my heart beat, lub-dub-lub-dub-lub-dub. So, the “heartbeat of Africa” is still strong and my dream of living, serving, and walking among the people of Congo is just as a alive now as it has ever been.
So, as I continue to take steps further to where God is calling me, I will continue to live in the moment, make more memories, grow deeper with the people around me, and finish well. I look forward to sharing more with each of you. Don’t hesitate to contact me, I would love to hear from you! You can always email me at
